As environmentally-friendly builders, we’re constantly seeking out ways to make our buildings more energy-efficient.
As such, our modern, adaptable eco-pods are Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) and Passive House Standard, meeting a BER of A1 or A2 on the BER Assessor.

We don’t just stop there. Creating a more energy-efficient future is something we are very passionate about and constantly looking to improve upon.
Each OUTROOM is a ‘passive’ structure, which means it requires very little energy to be warmed or cooled. The controllable indoor environment provided by your nühaus OUTROOM is a result of a superior airtight build that is significantly more resistant to structural damage from moisture and damp, as well as completely draught proof.

The cold Irish ground underneath the floor can have a big impact on heat and energy efficiency, acting as a constant leak that requires us to input more energy. To help offset this, we use ‘insulated raft’ foundations and continuous above-ground insulation. These techniques can massively reduce any ground-based heat loss and have the added advantage of protecting a structure from moisture and decay.
Each OUTROOM also uses glue-laminated timber (GluLam). This material is designed to stand the test of time, but its real advantage lies in its strength- it’s up to 70% more rigid than the timber it replaces, eliminating settling and movement in a build. Along with this material, we incorporate structural insulated panels (SIPs) into our buildings to reduce cross-sectional area on our walls, increase wall strength and improve insulation.

The triple glazed windows featured on each OUTROOM are comprised of 3 panes of glass with air or an insulating gas, such as argon, in the gaps between them. Due to this extra layer, triple glazing improves the seal of the room and reduces heat loss- keeping it warmer for longer and significantly reducing outside noise.
